How to Identify Bad Noises in Your Used Car

If you are like many of our customers, you are probably very committed to keeping your used car running smoothly for as long as possible. A healthy used car in Windsor is more likely to last longer - and be safer - than a neglected used car. One of the most important ways that you can ensure that your used car in Tecumseh stays healthy is to listen to what your car tells you.

There are good noises - which are normal - and there are bad noises that used cars can make. Keep in mind that we have already inspected your used car before you bought it in order to be sure that it is in the best possible condition. However, there are many things in a car's engine and entire system that can require an adjustment or need attention. The warranty we offer with used cars will often cover some of these services, so feel free to bring in your used car the second you hear something unusual coming from the engine or the body itself.

Here are a few of the noises you might hear with your used car - along with a small explanation of what it could be:

Squealing from the engine

When your engine squeals when you start or operate your car, chances are good that it's time to stop by to have one of our technicians take a look under the hood. Squealing often means that you have a loose belt of that something associated with one of your belts may be about to fail. Most squeals of this nature will vary in pitch as you vary the engine speed.

Clicking noises

Many cars have very faint clicking noises under the hood after the car is turned off. These faint clicking noises can seem strange - especially since they occur when the engine is off. However, these noises are usually just the engine manifold starting to cool and are quite normal. You probably don't need to bring in your car for these clicking noises.

Howling when parking or turning

Sometimes drivers will hear a cat-like howl or screech when they go to park their cars. If this happens to you - don't worry - you probably haven't hit a cat. Instead, it's possible that you are low on power steering fluid. Bring your car on in to our service team to let us refill your power steering fluid as soon as you get a chance.
